Getting startedGetting Started

Take time to review 1 Peter, from the 1 Peter 1:1 to 1 Peter 2:10. Use the key words and sentences that you created, summarizing each section of your study, to talk your way through 1 Peter.

1 Peter 2:11-25

  1. Read the “Objectives for this Study” and the “In This Study” for today’s study.
  2. Read through 1 Peter 2:11-25 as a group. Take time to talk about key words and phrases. Circle those words.
  3. Take time to read through the historical background found in this workbook.
  4. 1 Peter 2:11-12 is an introductory phrase that leads us into the next section of Peter’s letter. Take time to discuss the chart on page 26 concerning previous key transitional phrases. It is a valuable exercise to review each of these phrases and take note of how they preface a new thought. Take time to work through this.
  5. 1 Peter 2:12 tells us that we are to live good lives even though those around us accuse us of doing wrong. What are the circumstances behind these words? How might this relate to us today?
  6. In the original languages we find the Greek word for “therefore” in 1 Peter 2:13. While it may not be in our translations, it is helpful for us in interpreting it fully. Take time to find the truth preceding and the actions that follow “therefore”. Make a list of the actions.
  7. How might 1Peter 2:13-17 have been understood by the first readers of this letter?
  8. What warning did Peter give believers about using their freedom in Christ? (1 Peter 2:16)
  9. How does 1 Peter 2:13-17 apply for us today in both our community and country?
  10. Just by addressing the slaves in 1 Peter 2:18, Peter was raising their profile in society. In Roman culture, they were property and Peter puts them on equal footing with everyone else. How might that made them feel?
  11. According to this passage, how can people please God? (1 Peter 2:18-20)
  12. While slavery is banned today, what principles in 1 Peter 2:18 can you find that relate to your occupation today?
  13. Peter presents the gospel in 1 Peter 2:22-25. This is the 3rd presentation (1:3-5, 1:18-25). Compare them.
  14. Why does Peter add a gospel presentation here?
  15. We are compared to sheep in 1 Peter 2:25. How does this verse relate within the gospel presentation? How do we see the application of this verse in our world today?
  16. Divide into groups of 4 to write a summary statement and choose a key word for 1 Peter1:22-2:10.
  17. Complete the Charts on pages 8 and 9.
