The "Battle for the Bible" has raged throughout the history of this world.  For example, before the fall of the Romanian Dictator Ceausescu in December 1989, he ordered all Bibles destroyed, confiscated and sold as toilet paper. Who knows what was going on in his mind but for some reason he recognized the contents of this historic book to be a threat to his regime. This Dictator's plot is only one of hundreds throughout history.

Every honest thinker must agree that the Bible is an extraodinary book.  While powerful people have tried to squelch it, the Bible has always survived and flourished.  I want to tell you that the Bible is more than extraordinary, it is in fact other-worldly.  It is God's letter to man. We can trust the Bible to be true and accurate.

Consider some of the reasons why we should trust the Bible.

ARCHEOLOGICAL ACCURACY

In the past 150 years, many brilliant archeologists have conducted detailed archeological examinations at 1000's of sites through the Middle East. The results of their discoveries have proven that the Bible is reliable and accurate in every area where its statements could be tested.

King Nebuchadnezzar's Inscription about the Tower of Babel, Gen.11:1. The remains of that tower exist today in the form of a melted glass (vitrified).  When Nebuchadnezzar rebuilt Babylon, he restored the lowest platform (circumference of 2300ft.) of the Tower of Babel in honor of the Chaldean gods. The bricks used for that foundation have inscriptions on them, (1) the seal of Nebechadnezzar (2) the story of Babel. Today, language scholars believe that all languages trace back to one single original language.

Joseph and the Seven Years of Famine, Genesis 41:29-30.  An inscription was found on a marble tabled.  Written 1800 years ago that corresponds with Bible.

Exodus, Egyptian historians recorded the Israeli exodus from Egypt.  Joseph & Moses are named and the story corresponds with the Bible.

The Walls of Jericho, (Joshua 6) "Walls collapsed so that every man charged straight in." A discovery in the 1930's showed that "the walls fell outwards so completely that the attackers would be able to clamber up and over their ruins into the city."

BIBLE'S PRESERVATION

Its' Survival. The famous French writer, Voltaire, often wrote expressing his contempt for the Bible & Christianity. He wrote a prediction about the future of the Bible. "In 100 years Christianity will be but a vanishing memory."  Today his home and office is owned by the British and Foreign Bible Society, filled, floor to the ceiling with Bibles. 85,000 people accept Jesus Christ as Saviour every day somewhere in the World.

Until 1870, it was illegal to possess a Bible in Italy

The care took by ancient scribes.  When a scribe completed his copy, a master examiner would painstakingly count every individual letter to confirm that there were no errors.  If an error was found, the mistaken copy was destroyed to prevent it ever being used as a master copy.

Dead Sea Scrolls. KJV Manuscripts from 1100 AD.  Bedouin Arab found a cave in Qumran near the Dead Sea - 68AD Documents. Every single book in the OT except Esther. Identical with exception of few minor spelling errors.
NT most widely quoted book in history.  100,000 Bible manuscripts vs Ceasar (Gaelic Wars) 10 manuscripts.
